How pool volume is calculated

Volume in gallons is the surface area × average depth × 7.48 (gallons per cubic foot). For a rectangle that's length × width × depth; round and oval pools use the radius. Average depth means exactly that — add the shallow-end and deep-end depths and divide by two.

The average of your shallow end and deep end. A pool that's 3 ft shallow and 7 ft deep averages 5 ft.
