How to use it

  1. Enter your volume and how many degrees to raise the water.
  2. Pick your heater type and your energy price (leave price blank to use a typical default).
  3. Compare types — a heat pump usually costs a fraction of gas or electric resistance.

Gas vs. heat pump vs. electric

Gas heats fast but burns money on big rises. Electric resistance is the most expensive to run. A heat pump is slow but cheapest per degree because it moves heat instead of making it (a COP around 5 means ~5 units of heat per unit of electricity). Whatever you use, a cover is the single biggest cost saver — most heat is lost off the surface.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to heat a pool?
It depends on size, temperature rise, and fuel. Raising 20,000 gallons by 10°F costs only a few dollars by heat pump but more by gas — enter your numbers and price above.
What's the cheapest way to heat a pool?
A heat pump for running cost, plus a solar cover to stop heat loss. Solar panels are cheapest of all once installed.
