How to use it

  1. Test your CYA (cyanuric acid / stabilizer).
  2. Enter your current level, your target, and your volume.
  3. Add via a sock in the skimmer basket; wait ~5 days before re-testing — it dissolves slowly.

How much CYA do you want?

For a traditional chlorine pool, 30–50 ppm is ideal. Saltwater (SWG) pools run higher, 60–80 ppm, because the cell produces chlorine continuously. Indoor pools and spas need little or none. Remember: your chlorine target scales up with CYA.

You can't lower CYA with chemicals

There's no additive that removes cyanuric acid. The only practical way down is to drain and refill with fresh water (or a reverse-osmosis service). That's why it's better to under-shoot and add more than to overshoot.

Frequently asked questions

How much stabilizer raises CYA?
About 13 oz of cyanuric acid per 10,000 gallons raises CYA roughly 10 ppm. Enter your numbers above for the exact amount.
Why won't my CYA reading change after adding stabilizer?
Because granular CYA takes about 5 days to fully dissolve and register. Don't re-dose during that window or you'll overshoot.
How do I lower high CYA?
Only by diluting — drain part of the water and refill. The calculator shows you what percentage to replace.
